Still in the Back Seat

School starts next week and for me that brings the hope of catching up on writing, exercise and the search for my lost sanity that came with summer break. This summer was more like winter break for us. So little pool time and while the cool weather did make for some glorious outside play, for the most part the kids just wanted to play inside. They have outgrown my tricks and crafts and hang together in camaraderie to stir up chaos. We had lots of forts built in what they now call the “cave” and I have a permanent store of beaded necklaces and origami in the basement. I know someday I will look back at this summer in a “wish it could be like that again” kind of way, but for now you will just see me walking around marking off the days on my sweet Mickey Mouse calendar, anticipating the angst of the first day of school and soon rejoicing as that big yellow bus pulls away.

This update will be brief as so much of our chaos is still piled high in the back seat, slowly making its way to the trunk. On the adoption front, we are waiting on our US approval and preparing documents to be sent south. We have applied for a few grants, only to find out that funds were no longer available and we continue to pray that God will meet our financial needs in this journey. We are being tested in this, but we also know that this is part of the adventure and we are trusting that this will not be a burden for us as we complete the path God has laid before us. It can be hard to focus on the blessings as we wait upon our Lord, but we are seeking comfort and learning more patience in this season.

These days I have been carrying with me the words of Everlasting God, by Chris Tomlin,

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
As we wait upon the Lord
As we wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign for ever
Our hope, Our strong deliverer

You are the everlasting God,
The everlasting God,
You do not faint, You won't grow weary
